Sedimentary Rock

A rap/Rock tune about the Rock cycle. Even includes a recipe for making your own sedimentary rock! Listen here: Sedimentary Rock

Sedimentary Rock
©1997 by Marla Lewis

Take some sand and pebbles,
Then layer in some glue,
And stick it in a dixie cup,
It looks like goo!
Wait until it hardens,
And what have you got?
A true replica
of Sedimentary Rock!

It’s true! SEDIMENTARY ROCK
Let’s do the SEDIMENTARY ROCK
SEDIMENTARY ROCK

It starts as molten magma,
And when the lava cools,
The rock becomes an igneous
That feels real smooth.
With weather and erosion,
This comes as no shock:
It transforms into
a Sedimentary Rock!

(CHORUS)

It might turn back to magma,
Or pressure mixed with heat,
Could make it metamorphic rock,
It seems complete --
But if there’s more erosion
And rain on your block,
It transforms again
To Sedimentary Rock!

(CHORUS)

Now when it’s cold and rainy
And you can’t go out to play
And nothing but soap opera’s
On TV all day,
Take some sand and pebbles,
And put on your smock,
And make a giant batch of Sedimentary Rock!
