These are the New York State Learning Standards for the songs from the CD We All Laugh In the Same Language [1]. A printable PDF version is also available here [2].

NEW YORK STATE LEARNING STANDARDS FOR SONGS FROM
“We All Laugh in the Same Language"

1. “We All Laugh in the Same Language”  

Social Studies - Geography  

  • Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of the world in which we live -- local, national, and global – including the distribution of people, places and environments over the earth’s surface.  
  • Students will show appreciation of other cultures by identifying and comparing the physical, human, and cultural characteristics of different regions and people.  

2. “Wonderin’ WhyScience – Scientific Thinking  

  • Students will ask questions about natural phenomena, objects and organisms, events and discoveries.  

Science – Tools and Technology  

  • Students will use technology to gather data.  

3. “Best Friends” (Activity #1) Art Making - Drawing  

  • Children will create a drawing that exercises imagination, constructs meaning, and depicts their experiences.  
  • Children will use color to convey expression.  

4. “Muskrat RapScience – Living Environment  

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of how plants and animals depend on each other for their physical environment.  
  • Students will describe the functions of living specimens.  
  • Students will describe survival behaviors of common living species.  

Science – Information Systems  

  • Students will use computers to enter, process, display and communicate information in different forms using text, tables, pictures and sound.  

5. “Jackson AvenueMusic Literacy  

  • Children will recognize and identify the instruments of the orchestra  

Art Making - Collage  

  • Children will create a collage that demonstrates experimentation with placement of shapes, color, and composition.  

Media Technology  

  • Children will create a work of art by using a computer, that demonstrates experimentation with compositional elements and computer program icons.  

Science – Tools and Technology  

  • Students will use computers to enter, process, display, and communicate information in different forms using text, tables, pictures, and sound.  

6. “Down Chinatown WayEnglish Language Arts – Writing  

  • Children will produce a narrative account, either fictional or autobiographical.  
  • Children will produce work in one literary genre that follows the conventions of that genre.  
  • Student shows a basic control of grammar, punctuation, spelling and usage.  

7. “Don’t Run in the HallEnglish Language Arts – Writing  

  • Children will produce work in one literary genre that follows the conventions of that genre.  

English Language Arts – Reading  

  • Children will read aloud with rhythm, flow and meter.  

8. “We Can’t Wait For Spring” (Activity #1) Science – Natural Phenomena  

  • Children will describe what happens in the spring  

Art Making – Drawing  

  • Children will create a drawing that exercises imagination, constructs meaning, and depicts their experiences.  
  • Children will use color to convey expression.  
  • Children will observe and interpret the world through art.  

9. “We Can’t Wait For Spring” (Activity #2) English Language Arts – Writing  

  • Children will produce a narrative account, either fictional or autobiographical.  
  • Children will produce work in one literary genre that follows the conventions of that genre.  
  • Student shows a basic control of grammar, punctuation, spelling and usage.

12. “Homeless ManSocial Studies – Civics, Citizenship, and Government Students will:  

  • Show a willingness to consider other points of view before drawing conclusions or making judgments  
  • Participate in activities that focus on a classroom, school or community issue or problem  
  • Suggest alternative solutions or courses of action to hypothetical or historic problems.  

13. “Round and RoundArt Making – Drawing  

  • Children will create a drawing that exercises imagination, constructs meaning, and depicts their experiences.  
  • Children will use color to convey expression.  

Mathematics – Exploring Shapes Children will categorize objects in their world as circular, spherical, oval, or egg shaped.
